Leisure
The reason why Furtwangen in the Black Forest is such a popular resort for holidaymakers and visitors is the intact nature and the wide range of events and leisure attractions both for those looking for peace and quiet and for active and sporty holidaymakers:
The municipal open-air swimming pool is solar-heated. The opening hours therefore depend on the weather:
daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., last admission at 6 p.m.
If outside temperatures fall below 18°C (measured at noon), the pool closes after 1.30 p.m. and remains closed for the rest of the day.
Summer activities include hiking, swimming, cycling, tennis (indoor and outdoor courts), horse-riding and fishing. Winter sports range from skiing with several lifts, 50 km of cross country skiing tracks, and winter hiking.
Also worth seeing:
- the German Clock Museum, open daily until 6 p.m. (closed 24 - 26 December)
- the romantic Hexenlochmühle (mill)
- the source of the Danube river
- "Brend" mountain with viewing tower
Within 100 km from Furtwangen you'll find the medieval town of Freiburg, Lake Constance (Bodensee), the Alsace in France, Feldberg (the highest mountain in the Black Forest), Switzerland, Lake Titisee or the Vogtsbauernhöfe (outdoor museum) in Hausach.
